In a bid to attract foreign investors the Indian government has approved foreign direct investment of up to 74% under the automatic route in the defence sector. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade has said the foreign investments would be subject to scrutiny on the grounds of national security and will be approved only after the government's approval. Currently, 100% FDI is permitted in the defence sector.
