Akihito steps down for son after 3 decades of rule in Japan to become 1st to do so
With the completion of the rituals, Emperor Akihito step downs from the post after ruling for 3 decades. Akihito has abdicated the Chrysanthemum Throne, the oldest continuous hereditary monarchy in the world to become the 1st Japanese monarch in modern history to do so. He will be succeeded by his son Crown Prince Naruhito. Naruhito will be 126th emperor tomorrow. Akihito will be remembered for his connection with public.
