Arkansan on Tuesday banned gender-affirmation medical treatments for transgender youth, becoming the first US state to do away with the practice. To ban the practice, the state legislature overrode the veto by governor Asa Hutchinson, who had claimed that the measures give Arkansas too much power to influence decisions made by trans youth, their doctors and families. The assembly voted 25-8 in favour of the bill.
