In a major strategic move, Australia has planned to shift its naval presence in the Middle East to Asia-Pacific and China, months after a heated exchange of words with Beijing. The Australian Navy will also withdraw from the US-led naval coalition patrolling the Strait of Hormuz at the end of 2020 to increase its presence in the Asia-Pacific region. The announcement came days after India invited Australia for the Malabar exercise.
