Child has right to decide which surname to use: Delhi High Court

The Delhi High Court has ruled while hearing a plea by a minor girl's father, that every child has the right to use his or her mother's surname. The court said this while hearing a plea by a man where he tried to seek direction from the authorities to reflect his name as his daughter's surname in the documents. "The father does not own the daughter to dictate that she should use only his surname," Justice Rekha Palli said.
