In a major achievement, the World Health Organisation has declared China malaria-free. It took China to deploy continuous efforts for several decades to go from nearly 30 million cases in the 1940s to zero in 2017. “Their success was hard-earned and came only after decades of targeted and sustained action," WHO chief Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said. With this, China became the 40th country to be declared malaria-free.
