Electricity bill defaulters in Uttar Pradesh owe Rs. 68,000 Crore, over 1 crore have never paid their bills

According to UP Power Corporation Limited's data, 38% of consumers haven't paid bills since the day of connection. This data translates into over 1.09 crore consumers. These defaulters owe Rs 68,000 crore. 96% of these consumers are from rural areas. As per the data, more than 3.78 lakh customers in Purvanchal have an outstanding electricity bill of more than Rs 1 lakh. 43 lakh defaulters are from Purvanchal Discom alone.
