Millions of seabirds found dead on the west coast of US in 2015-16 were perhaps killed by an unprecedented heatwave, scientists suggest. A new study says the warmer sea waters, known as the ‘blob, was responsible for a shortage of the fish birds feed on. The seabirds might have starved to death because of an approximate 1,000-mile body of warmer water affecting the north-eastern Pacific area between 2013 and 2016.
