India reports over 28,000 coronavirus cases in 24 hours for the first time, Total tally near 8.5 lakh

India saw its highest single-day spike in coronavirus cases with 28,637 new cases being reported. The number of people who have tested positive for COVID-19 in India has reached 8,49,553. The death toll rose to 22,674 with 551 new fatalities on Saturday, the number of active cases stands at 2,92,258 while 5,34,620people have recovered, according to Union Health Ministry data. Maharashtra and Karnataka reported record cases on Saturday.
