In a major strategic change, the Indian military will be reorganised under five theatre commands by 2022 for better operating capability and a seamless command structure. Once the cabinet okays the proposal, the department of military affairs will have additional and joint secretaries. Out of the 5 theatre commands, the Northern Command will be set to tackle China while the Western command will be Pakistan specific.
