Kerala was hit by the 'flood of the century' in 2018, and the fishermen selflessly helped thousands of people during those times. Millions of people were stranded in their homes, absolutely cut off from the outside world, saved only because of the fishermen's selfless acts. To honour that, Kerala fishermen have become part of the coastal police department, and the Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan called them the state's own army.
