After the tsunami hit the city of Palu in Indonesia, killing 384 people, social media users blamed Indonesia's geophysics agency BMKG for lifting the tsunami warning quiet early. The warning was pulled 34 minutes before six-metre high waves hit the coastline. The agency stated that there is no observation data available for Palu and they used the closest tide gauge which only recorded insignificant waves.
