Online payment of bills sees 4-fold surge in rural & semi-urban India

The IT Ministry's WiFi-enabled Common Sevice centres act as physical access points to avail government & business services online in almost all the 2.5 lakh gram panchayats. The government data shows a surge in online electricity bill payments (4-fold increase) & insurance premium renewals (6-fold increase) that arose as some of the fastest growing non-banking services across rural & semi-urban India over the last 5 years.
