There was a mass extinction of life forms on Earth around 359 million years ago due to ozone layer depletion. Until now, the cause of the event was unexplained. However, scientists now explain to be the result of harmful UV-B radiation which entered the Earth because of the decreased ozone layer. They analysed the rocks to conclude volcanic eruptions were not the reason for this mass extinction.
