British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said that Parthenon marbles, the Greek sculptures taken by Lord Elgin, will remain in the UK despite Greece's demands. Greece has been claiming ownership of 2,500-year-old sculptures since it gained independence in 1832. Lord Elgin, a diplomat, removed the marbles for the Parthenon temple in Athens in the early 19th century when Greece was under Ottoman rule.
