A strong earthquake of magnitude 7.1 struck off the southeast coast of the Philippines in the early hours of Thursday. According to the US Geological Survey, there was no risk of a Tsunami. The earthquake was measured at a depth of 65.6 km. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology expected some aftershocks. Philippines is prone to earthquakes as it is on the geologically active Pacific Ring of Fire.
