Amid rising number of coronavirus cases in India, ICMR has defended the August 15 target for launching Covaxin, India’s Covid-19 vaccine candidate, amid criticism from the scientific community, the ICMR said the process is in accordance with the globally accepted norms to fast-track the vaccine development. However, global health experts questioned the deadline as they believe it is not possible to develop vaccine so early.
