A farmer in Punjab set his sugarcane field ablaze, burning down sugarcane worth Rs 5 lakh after he was unable to fetch it to the sugar mill as mills remain closed due to the lockdown. The farmer, Jagtar Singh, said he somehow managed to sell a few bundles of sugarcane to small juice-sellers, but with the lockdown in place, even that became difficult with every passing day. He also demanded a compensation from the government.
