Sabarimala trek begins 2 days after SC order, 5 women sent back by police

The first day of the 41-day annual pilgrimage to the Sabarimala trek began on Saturday with hundreds of devotees trecking their way up to the temple. The chief priest of the Sabarimala temple, Mahesh Kandarau, will open its doors at 5 pm for the three-month pilgrimage season. Five women of childbearing age were sent back by the police and a senior cop said they have strict instructions not to allow women in the age group of 10-50.
