The cargo ship carrying a consignment of chemicals and raw materials, that caught fire near the Colombo beach last week, may lead to slight acid rains in Sri Lanka. The emission of nitrogen dioxide from the Singapore-flagged cargo ship is the main reason that can lead to acid rains. According to Dharshani Lahandapura, Chairperson of Marine Environment Protection Authority, the emission of Nitrogen Dioxide from the ship was massive.
