Scientists have isolated the specific compounds from the Brazilian Peppertree - a weedy, invasive shrub -that can reduce the virulence properties of antibiotic-resistant staph bacteria, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, known as MRSA. The study claims the triterpenoid acids in the red berries of the plant can effectively neutralize dangerous staph bacteria as it blocks its ability to produce toxins.
