Jean-Michel Dubernard, the Frenc surgeon who undertook the world's first successful hand and face transplants, passed away at the age of 80. Dubernard, one of France's most famous medics, collapsed at Istanbul airport on Saturday night while travelling with his family. He had undertaken the world's first hand transplant in September 1998 on a man from New Zealand. He also wrote about his expertise in several medical journals.
