According to a report by the Food and Agriculture Organisation, a UN agency, the world has lost almost 100 million hectares of forests in two decades due to various reasons. However, the pace of the decline of forest cover was way slower than the previous decade. As per the report, the proportion of forest to total land area stands at 31.2 percent in 2020 -- a 0.7 percent decline from 31.9 percent in 2000.
