Researchers have found a burial mound in northern Syria as possibly the world's oldest known war memorial. It was formerly supposed to be the old mass burial of enemy combatants and was known as the White Monument. However, according to a paper published in the journal Antiquity on Friday, it was a memorial for the community's 3rd millennium BC combat dead. It also raises the prospect of more Syrian sites being targeted.
