From now on, traffic violators will have to pay hefty fines

The Upper House of the Parliament has passed the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2019, in order to improve road safety, increase the penalty for traffic violations and root out corruption. It proposes to increase the minimum penalty for a general violation to Rs 500 from Rs 100. Driving without a license to be penalized Rs 5,000 from Rs 500 while driving despite disqualification will lead to a fine of Rs 10,000.
