Richard Hollingshead opened Camden, New Jersey's first drive-in theatre on June 6, 1933. After paying 25 cents per car, viewers watched the British comedy "Wives Beware." Despite the fact that the popularity of drive-in theatres has risen and fallen over the years, 321 theatres remained open in the United States as of June 2020.
