1. As per a report by the International Labour Organization, 42 lakh youth lost jobs due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

2. The report is based on a regional assessment of the ‘Global Survey on Youth and COVID-19’.

3. According to the report, two-thirds of firm-level traineeship and three-quarters of internships were completely interrupted during the pandemic.

4. Youth unemployment rates in the country increased sharply in the first quarter of 2020 from the last quarter of 2019, it said.

5. The report calls on the government in the region to adopt urgent, large-scale, and targeted measures to generate jobs for the youth.
