What Does Psychology Have to Say About Dreams?

psychology, facts

Dreams, according to Sigmund Freud's hypothesis, are a mechanism for the unconscious mind to process and express ideas, desires, and drives that the individual may be suppressing. Dreams may thus be viewed as a window into the unconscious psyche of the individual. People are motivated by repressed and unconscious longings, such as aggressive and sexual inclinations, according to Freud. These impulses frequently clash with the person's conscious ideals and beliefs, causing inner anguish and stress. Dreams may be used by the unconscious mind to settle these conflicts and restore psychological equilibrium. Additional theories of dreaming propose that they may have other purposes, such as supporting us in-memory process
