The Birth of Venus is unquestionably one of the most famous and adored works of art in the world. It was painted between 1482 and 1485 by Sandro Botticelli and depicts the mythological figure Venus, the goddess of love, arriving on the island of Cyprus. Christian inspiration was very dominant in art during the Middle Ages, but the rise of humanism changed the artistic approach. Nude art was reborn as a result of renewed interest in the myths of ancient Rome.
